With online mapping tools such as ArcGIS Online, spatial thinking has become integrated into classes throughout the curricula of higher education. Exponential growth of GIS coursework is straining the limits of what instructors can accommodate through manual management processes. Integrating ArcGIS Online (AGOL) with campus Learning Management Systems (LMS) enables automation that reduces those workloads, and provides increased accountability and improved portability. We share results from a survey of instructors and technology specialists that identifies key goals for an AGOL-LMS integration, and discuss lessons learned from an AGOL-Canvas pilot. |
